Language should become main strength for journos: Niranjan Vanalli

Dr. Niranjan Vanalli addressing the students of Journalism.

Tumkur: Language has become a major problem for the new generation journalists. Those who enter the field without a command over language will themselves become a threat to the journalism industry, observed Dr. Niranjan Vanalli from Department of Mass Communication and Journalism, University of Mysore.
Addressing the students of Journalism of University College of Arts during his visit to Tumkur University, he said language should become the main strength for journalists.
It is a tragedy that a strange generation is getting formed in the recent times, who can neither handle Kannada nor English properly. The problems in learning the language should be addressed at the primary education level itself, he noted.
Reporting or news writing is a technique, which you can learn in a few months. But attaining command over a language is a long process. The young journalists should give more importance to this aspect, Dr. Vanalli suggested.
He said those who can use both English and Kannada effectively even as they are students, have a wonderful future. “Opportunities are numerous in the modern world, but one should prepare himself according to the requirements of the time,” he stressed.
You may accept journalism as a service or a profession, but you should succeed in your endeavors, he wished.
The students interacted with the eminent writer with a lot of questions and enthusiasm.
